Huawei-3Com Selects Passave Silicon for China's Expanding Fiber-to-the-Home
(FTTH) Market; Leading OEM's Move Expected to Act as Catalyst for Rapid
Deployment of Low-price, Gigabit-speed EPON Service
SANTA CLARA, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 8, 2005 -- Passave, the
leading provider of semiconductors for Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband
access equipment, today announced that Huawei-3Com has selected Passave's
Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) chips for deployment in its Quidway
S6500 Series Switch product line. The Quidway S6500 is designed for
gigabit-speed delivery of data, voice, and video over fiber and is expected
to provide users a significantly lower cost for EPON-based broadband service.
Huawei-3Com researches, develops, and manufactures a full line of data
communications products. The company's comprehensive portfolio of
customized, IP-based networking solutions and services is inventive,
cost-effective, and feature-rich. The Passave chip solution will allow
Huawei-3Com to usher in continuous cost reduction for gigabit-speed EPON
solutions, and thereby contribute to the rapid expansion of fiber-based
broadband growth in China.
"We view gigabit-EPON technology as one of the most advanced and mature
solutions for delivery of access networks," said Xiang Ying Cao, vice
president of Huawei-3Com. "By cooperating with Passave, we are able to
develop mature gigabit-EPON solutions for the Quidway switch product line
in a very short time frame. This move has allowed Huawei-3Com to maintain a
leadership position within the industry and to drive down costs."
"Huawei-3Com is a leader in the fiber-based broadband systems that are
redefining access networks in China," said Ariel Maislos, president of
Passave. "We are honored to be chosen by such a leader and broadband
innovator to help expand the fiber-access revolution."
This announcement provides further evidence of Passave's growth and its
leading position in key Asian markets. Since its founding in 2001, Passave
has grown to more than 100 employees on three continents and has shipped
more than five million ports of FTTH silicon. Passave's optical line
terminal (OLT) and optical network unit (ONU) devices are deployed in
volume by Japan's major carriers, and Passave's low-cost, highly integrated
EPON chipset is ideally suited to the requirements of carriers in China for
cost-competitive broadband delivery and services.
Huawei-3Com's Quidway S6500 Series Switch product with integral Passave
FTTH silicon will begin shipping in volume in the third quarter of 2005.
