Hello,

I have a number of students who are very interested in examining municipal and state investments in wifi and broadband with the goal of evaluating New York State policy. There was a recent posting on Telecom Cities about a conference in October looking at some US models. Could I get a repeat of information on this conference? Also if there are other resources to which I could point them, I would be very appreciative.
That is the Rural Telecommunications Congress Annual Conference, Lexington, KY. Information is below:

Communities of Interest (COI) have always been a central focus of the Rural Telecommunications Congress. At Rural Telecon ‘05’ they will take on even more significance. Tuesday morning will kickoff with conference attendees able to articulate key issues and efforts in the Community of Interest breakout sessions. Each Community of Interest, including Community and Economic Development, Infrastructure, Public Policy and Research and Telemedicine/Telehealth, will be asked to look back on the last twelve months and also look forward to the next five years and provide their insight about the role of broadband telecommunications. The topics for discussion are already available on the Rural Telecommunications Congress web site (http:// www.ruraltelecon.org/dp/). Each speaker is also being asked to consider these same issues as they prepare their presentations. During the Tuesday morning breakout session, facilitators will guide discussions on each Community of Interest. Comments, ideas, as well as issues will be documented and appear online immediately Tuesday morning. Throughout the day attendees will be able to review these “positions” and continue to contribute from the Internet Café or using their own laptops and the available high speed wireless connection. COI blogs have already been setup on the Rural Telecommunications web site and will continue to be available throughout the conference. Important updates contributed by conference attendees will be provided throughout the remainder of the conference. A final Rural Telecommunications Congress “position” will be presented Wednesday morning following the Strategic Telecommunication Planning & Aggregation of Demand workshop.

Come and join us this year in Lexington, Kentucky. As the need for broadband telecommunications heats up, your opinions and thoughts have never been more important. This year’s conference will be held at the Lexington Center with accommodations at the adjacent Radisson Hotel. The 2005 Rural Telecommunications Congress Conference web site (http://www.ruraltelecon.org/conference/) is now available. The conference is scheduled from October 9 – 12.
