Hello all,

I have not mapped it, but I started to look at the material from a couple of
perspectives that are interesting. The first is which states have the highest
penetration of Internet/PC. Looking at it in terms of PCs, it seems that a
couple of western states are pretty high on the list. Utah, Washington, Alaska
and Colorado (along with New Hampshire) lead the way here. At the other end
are some southern states, Mississippi, Arkansas, Lousiana, Oklahoma and
Alabama. If you look in terms of Internet adoption the ranking is just about
the same with a few substitutions.

However, if you look at the percent of PCs that do not have an internet
connection the picture changes a bit. The top of the list is still the
sparsely populated states mostly in the west/great plains. Idaho, Utah (high
PC adoption but low Internet adoption) Nebraska, Maine, Kansas. South Carolina,
New Mexico. At the other end of the scale there are the states with the lowest
difference between PC and Internet adoption. Alaska (high PC and high
Internet) Oklahoma (low PC but most of them have Internet) New Jersey, Florida,
Pennsylvania Orgegon. This latter group is really a mized bag. Populated
eastern states, low penetration southern states, the great north (Alaska) etc.
It is a little hard to make sense of it. It might be that some sort of public
policy or the marketing of the Internet plays in to the equation here.
