Wireless Silicon Valley, the ambitious project to provide wireless broadband coverage throughout Silicon Valley and neighboring communities such as Santa Cruz, has posted its business model on the website ( http://www.jointventure.org/programs-initiatives/smartvalley/projects/wirelesssv/wirelesssv.html). The plan outlines the strategic objectives for developing Silicon Valley's wireless network, and offers a framework for technology providers to develop and propose solutions to address the distinct digital needs of Silicon Valley's communities.

The Wireless Silicon Valley Task Force has identified demand for a network that provides: universal outdoor wireless service, public safety applications, indoor wireless access as an alternative to existing broadband service where it exists, interoperability with cities planning or already implementing wireless broadband, and the ability for municipalities to provide city applications and government services over a wireless network.

The network would be privately owned and operated, and provide bandwidth to one or more Internet service providers on a wholesale basis.

The Task Force plans to form a regional broadband alliance that will provide oversight for the project and for service providers, to ensure that the network delivers the promised services and coverage.

The Wireless Business Model was developed in consultation with Intel® Solution Services. The Wireless Silicon Valley Task Force will use the Wireless Business Model to guide development of a Request For Proposal (RFP) that will be issued by the San Mateo County Telecommunications Authority (SAMCAT) at the end of April.

In addition, they are organizing a public forum that will take place on at 10:00 am on 28 April 2006 at the Milpitas City Hall, 455 East Calaveras Boulevard in Milpitas. You have to sign up by 25 April by clicking here ( http://ga4.org/jointventure/events/wirelessSV/details.tcl).
