sorry for the crossposts: the Seoul Digital City blog (http://urban.blogs.com/seoul/) is back and better than ever, featuring guest correspondent Hanna Cho who is now living in S Korea for the next year looking at the future of mobile media. Hanna actually speaks Korean so i'm suspecting that her updates and insights are going to be infinitely more informative than mine were during my Fulbright residency in 2004.
the blog is at http://urban.blogs.com/seoul/ and Flickr feed http://www.flickr.com/photos/hannerl/ below's is Hanna's first post: ------ Picking up where Anthony left off back in 2004, I will be writing at Seoul Digital City from time to time to post my observations, thoughts, and questions on Korean mobile culture. My background is in communications, with a special emphasis on new technologies. I recently completed my MA at York University in Toronto, Canada, in the Joint Graduate Programme in Communication and Culture. My thesis dealt with the emergent community wireless networking movement, and I remain involved with the volunteer group Wireless Toronto. Over the next 11 months, I will be in Korea (Seoul, Gwangju, and perhaps Chun'chon) researching and exploring Korean (urban) mobile cultures. My interests are broad, and my goals include understanding how DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting; terrestrial and satellite), 3.5G networks, Cyworld, and other mobile applications are being taken up by Korea-based users. I'm also interested in cross-cultural uses of the mobile, especially among non-Koreans residing here. My research is funded through the National Institute for International Education Development (NIIED) and my primary instituational affiliation here is the Institute for Communication Arts and Technology at Hallym University (iCat) and its director, Professor Shin Dong Kim. I am by no means a technical or theoretical expert, and hope to stimulate and sustain some interesting conversations through this particular blog, and its readers. Thanks to Anthony for suggesting that I write here; looking forward to sharing from Korea! --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TELECOM-CITIES Current searchable archives (Feb. 1, 2006 to present) at http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Old searchble archives at http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
