Anthony's mention of the Spider Project led to discovering this (I notice one of his Institute for the Future colleagues is speaking)
9th International Conference of Finland Futures Research Centre and Finland Futures Academy June 6-8, 2007 http://www.tukkk.fi/tutu/conference2007/default.htm CFP: Abstract Deadline Jan. 31, 2007 http://www.tukkk.fi/tutu/conference2007/Call_for_Papers_FFRC2007.pdf CULTURE AS INNOVATION - THE SEARCH FOR CREATIVE POWER IN ECONOMIES AND SOCIETIES Culture is contradictory: It is individual and creative, it is collective and empowering. It is also diverse, conservative and restrictive. If we reflect upon such contradictions and develop that perspective we raise the questions: what is the future of the creative economy, the cultural industry, economic innovation and the interaction of culture and the economy? Furthermore, what consequences and challenges do such questions hold for the development of society? In particular, understanding culture as a creative, interactive and innovative power in society leads us to ask questions like: How does creativity strengthen regional and national competitiveness? In what ways can culture support sustainable development that is economic, social and cultural? Are there conflicting views about the consequences of bridging culture and the economy? What futures prospects can cultural production and the creative industries offer a society? What innovative systems in a creative economy are strategically important for a prosperous future? What is the significance of the production of cultural meaning and the role of cultural processes in our changing world? The conference will bring together people from universities, research institutes, companies, regional authorities, municipalities, governmental and non-governmental organisations. The idea is to meet, share and discuss new ideas concerning culture, the creative economy and innovativeness. The conference committee encourages all those who are interested in these questions and futures studies to participate and/or present a paper or poster at the conference. The aim is to generate multidisciplinary, lively and productive discussions and promote networking between people from different backgrounds in the arts, business and science. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TELECOM-CITIES Current searchable archives (Feb. 1, 2006 to present) at http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Old searchble archives at http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
