Say, for example that you are attempting to log into an IRC server with a
nickname that is longer than the allowed nick length (the IRC spec says the max
length is 9, but i've found that in practice, the limit is 15)
If you try to set your nick to, say, a12345678901234567890, the server will
happily truncate that to its max limit and carry on. So the server will
operate on the assumption that your nick is a123456789012345, but
telepathy-idle doesn't recognize that as our nick, so strange things happen.
