Jason, The escape should be added by the json converter and it should be removed by JavaScript json parser.
Selenium server te5 snapshot comes with Firebug, http://code.google.com/p/aost/wiki/TelluriumJQueryFirebug Could you try your code on Firefox and check the firebug console to see the output message? Alternatively, I could add the attachFile method to the DslContext and let tellurium core pass the command through without json conversion.
