Addressing your question about the required changes in the templates. Templates, provided with the Jahia distribution, are examples of what can be done using Jahia WCM system and are fully customizable: from look & feel and positioning to different content elements. A template developer can just replace or move around different building blocks (boxes, navigation menu, search field etc.). And of course can write own templates using JSP/Scriptlets/Taglibs. Unfortunately the screenshots, you provided on picasaweb.google.com, are no longer available and I cannot check them visually. But looking at the items, you’ve listed under "What I need to do", I can say that all of them can be easily done with Jahia (possibly by only adjusting example templates).
