I'm a big fan of MJD's Text::Template module. I've been lurking on this list for a while, and I just prefer the philosophy that it's better to use Perl than to recreate a new scripting language.
That said, I'm not here to bash on the Toolkit. Rather, I'm actually reaching a position where I can use a templating system on mod_perl (to date it's all been CGIs), and I want to have a better understanding of what I'm doing. This list seems to be populated with people who have gone this way before me, and I'd prefer to tap your wisdom rather than reinvent square wheels. Thus, I'm asking any takes to help me with the following goals: 1) I want to make sure I'm at least arguably right. What CAN'T Text::Template do that Template::Toolkit can? 2) If #1 doesn't crush me, I'm trying to fully grok Text::Template, and anything in #1 that I consider important, I'm going to try to add (either through subclassing or sending patches to MJD for his consideration). This will probably be one of the most complicated Perl tasks I've taken on (another reason I'm trying it), so any advice is appreciated. 3) In the interests of overall improvements, are there any areas where TT and TT (uh-oh) mutually improve? If this is deemed too off-topic, I can certainly accept replies in private and offer my apologies.
