It is unlikely that it was the Perl upgrade that broke your templates;
did you also upgrade TT? Version 1.07 is very old; the version on CPAN
is dated Jun3 16, 2000, and there have been 10 (!) versions released
since then. Take a look at the version of TT you installed.
Also, you might to upgrade your perl to at least 5.6.1, if not 5.8.0;
5.6.0 is known to have some problems.
