I'm please to announce that work on version 3 of the Template Toolkit
has begun!

Our excellent friends at Fotango[1] are employing me for the next few
months to work full-time on completing the design and implementation
of TT3.

I've been working on it on-and-off for more than 2 years and I've got
various bits of code strewn about in different locations. One of my
first tasks will be to pull all that together and get some code checked
into the all-new CVS repository.

One of my other first tasks will be to firm up the design in terms of
changes to the internal architecture and the template language itself.
Again, this is something that I've been thinking about for a while,
and I've even given a couple of talks[2] about what changes I might
make. But nothing is set in stone (yet), and I welcome input from
everyone on this.

I've created a new mailing list for the discussion of TT3.

  http://www.template-toolkit.org/mailman/listinfo/tt3

I'll be writing a series of design documents and posting them to this
list for general discussion, comments, etc., but you don't have to wait
for me. If anyone else wants to write design documents, proposals, lists
of most annoying mis-features, or whatever, then please go ahead.

There's also a web site (well, a web page) for TT3:

  http://tt3.template-toolkit.org/ # either/or
  http://template-toolkit.org/tt3/ # take your pick

This page has links to the CVS repository (currently just containing
a placeholder file) and the mailing list. It'll be updated throughout
the next few months to contain all the latest information as it happens.

Enjoy!
A
