Boy that took forever ... 20 minutes with interruptions.  :-)

It is but not all that useful for my setup.  There also appears to be an 
issue with spaces at the beginning of the tag lines.  I had to move them 
all the way to the left edge ( no spaces ) before pod2text or pod2html 
found them.

Well I see a possiblity here.  If things work out over the next few days I 
may be able to take it on.
