About the San Francisco AIDS Candlelight Vigil The vigil began in San Francisco and New York in 1983 and was led and organized by people with AIDS to publicly empower themselves and honor those who had died. It was the world's first public demonstration of solidarity for people whose illness made them the target of fear and discrimination. Since then, the Vigil has become the world's largest annual grassroots event. Last year vigils took place in over 4,500 communities in more than 93 countries. San Franciscos vigil remains grassroots so we can openly criticize a government that has stigmatized and demonized our lives and bodies. Many believe that the AIDS pandemic was worsened because of political apathy and homophobia. Sadly, AIDS is now an international security threat and has corrupted economies worldwide wiping out people in the prime of their lives. There is no cure for AIDS there are ways to halt AIDS, individually and as a human race. AIDS is easily prevented with condoms and clean needles for all who want them. Education saves lives - silence equals death.

About FXB:
The Association is named after Franois-Xavier Bagnoud, a young
helicopter pilot committed to rescuing people, who died in 1986 at the
age of 24 during a mission in Mali, West Africa.
In 1989, his mother, the Countess Albina du Boisrouvray, together
with his father, Bruno Bagnoud, his stepfather, Georges Casati, his
family and friends, established and financed the activities of the
Association Franois-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) to perpetuate the compassion
and generosity that guided Franois life.
Recognized by the Untied nations and with a yearly budget of
nearly USD 5 million, FXB reached 1.400,000 persons in 18 countries in
2003, through 87 programs.
-MISSION- The mission of FXB is to fight AIDS and support the
worlds orphans and vulnerable children left in the wake of the AIDS
pandemic by advocating for their needs and by providing direct support
to families and communities that care for them. These children are the
showcase for larger numbers of abandoned children in our global world.
-VISION-
* AIDS orphans and all children affected by AIDS are some of the
most vulnerable children living in this world.
* FXB seeks to ensure that these children are placed at the top of
the agenda of decision makers and those who fund projects so that
increased efforts to care for these children will improve the lives of
all vulnerable children.
* FXB establishes model community-based programs that empower and
support communities that care for and support vulnerable children
affected by AIDS and poverty.
* FXB promotes the inextricable link between Health and Human Rights
to ensure that children have access to basic health services as their right.
