Call for Dancers for Fire Ballet

Call for Ballet Dancers for a unique rendition of Romeo & Juliet.
Choreographed by Corinne Blum.

The Crucible (http://www.thecrucible.org) is seeking dancers for our
8th Anniversary Fundraiser, a production of Romeo & Juliet, staged as
a fire ballet with real fire. In the dazzling tradition of The
Crucible's Fire Operas, (http://www.thecrucible.org/calendar/
fireopera_followup_01.html) this first-ever Fire Ballet will be a
theatrical spectacle that fuses ballet, classical music, aerial
performance, the fire and industrial arts into a compelling
modernized rendition of Shakespeare's tragic tale.

Corinne Blum formally of the San Francisco Ballet, who has been
recognized as one of the West Coast's most exciting, young
choreographers, will be choreographing Romeo & Juliet-A Fire Ballet.
We anticipate that this will be an extremely high profile event,
receiving significant public and media attention. All performances of
The Crucible's Fire Operas were sold out, and Crucible events have
been featured prominently in the New York Times and in the San
Francisco Chronicle's Datebook. (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/
article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/01/08/PKGN1GH9LR1.DTL&hw=The%
2BCrucible&sn=006&sc=171 )

We are seeking dancers with a classical background for the following
roles:

Romeo, Juliet: Classically-trained ballet dancers with skills and
experience in contemporary dance. These are demanding roles and
require excellent dance skills.

Mercutio & Benvolio: Dancers with contemporary dance training and
experience. Preference given to those with ballet training. Both
roles require acting ability as well as dance experience. Height
requirement: less than 5'10".

Tybalt: A character dancer with a dance background or some sort of
movement training. Must be a skilled actor with a dominating presence.

Paris: Preference given to classical trained ballet dancers. This
role requires partner work. Older dancers are encouraged.

Lord Capulet, Lady Capulet: Must be skilled actors with strong stage
presence and classical dance background. Dancers or retired dancers
preferred.

Dancers for the ballroom scene: Dancers with a classical background.
Some experience in fire dancing will be given preference.

Assistant Stage Director : Will work with directly with the
Chorographer and Producer in directing the cast. Must have stage
direction experience, preferably within the dance world.

Selected dancers must be comfortable with fire nearby. The
performance will be held in The Crucible's educational studio, an
industrial warehouse, which transforms into a theater once a year.
Dancers must be available for rehearsals in early & mid December and
early Jan. (No rehearsals will be held between Christmas & New Years
Day.) Performances will be held in the evenings on January 10, 11,
12, 13, 17, 18, 19, and 20.

The show is a fundraiser for The Crucible, there is reasonable pay
for the roles, but we are seeking performers that are most interested
in collaborating in a truly unique and one of a kind production.
