Wanted: Costumes, Construction, and Prop help for theatrical production
On March 22, Ten Red Hen Productions opens CLOWN BIBLE, a broadly
comic, highly physical exploration of Bible stories, tracing the
running gags of masculinity, power and corruption that run throughout
the Holiest of Texts. It is currently being created by an outstanding
ensemble that includes director Maya Gurantz, composer Dave Malloy
(Banana, Bag and Bodice) and Jane Chen (Chinese Clown Cabaret)
playing God and Jesus.
We have a great tech crew of designers and managers--but we're still
looking for a few good men and women to round out our crew.
In particular, we need a:
* Technical Director/Builder: someone to come in for two days and
build the set--it's minimal, shouldn't take too long--a platform, a
couple of freestanding poles. Our set designer is an award winning
regional theater designer based in New York, with experience working
on large scale Broadway musicals, medium sized regional work, and the
development of (poor) new work.
* Costume Coordinator: someone to keep all the costume bits in some
kind of order. Minor building of costumes--sewing machine necessary.
* Props Master: take a large stuffed lion and make it so Samson can
rip it apart nightly, you know, crazy little things like that.
There will be stipends and budgets for each of these positions.
We are also looking for interns who want professional experience on
an exciting new production; a chance to work with highly experience
artists at the ground floor of a new production process, specifically
in the areas of:
* Set Building
* Painting
* Costumes
* Props
* Stage Management
Ten Red Hen is a fledgling theater company based in Oakland. We're
committed to creating engaging, relevant new theater that
interrogates both the form of live art-making and the world around
us. Our inaugural production, {The 99-Cent} Miss Saigon, a poor
theater version of the biggest musical of all time, deconstructed the
"Broadway musical" and was a big success, with excited audiences,
great reviews and special shout-outs in the SF Bay Guardian, SF
Weekly, East Bay Express, the Chronicle and 96 Hours, Flavorpill and
the Berkeley Daily Planet.
