Ian,
It’s very possible to create a high performance email process with TeraScript. If you design your application such that it reuses the same connection, and use an outgoing email server with good SMTP performance, you should be able to send millions of emails each day. The biggest challenge is making sure that you remove any bounces from your list. To do this you need to set the FROM address to an account that you can monitor automatically. For best results, I’ve created my own email header. Typically I set the header to an encrypted string with some pertinent details so that when an email bounce comes back, I can locate that header/string, and use its contents to figure out who/what to remove. In general its best to build the header manually and make sure its meticulous. More sophisticated systems might remove after 3 bounces, sniff out auto responders, or have more logic in determining when an email is truly unusable. You can actually get quite complex if you need to. It’s an industry all its own, thus there are sites like Constant Contact. Like most of you, our email is integrated with our various database-driven systems. We don’t want to outsource it, but we want to achieve optimal deliverability – at a reasonable price. What is an optimal solution at a low price point, for successfully sending large volume email (bypassing the junk mail folder), outside of turning it all over to a “Constant Contact” type of service. What have you intelligent folks found to work well for you? Thanks for taking a moment to respond. I’m sure that many on the list will be interested in the answers … By the way .. three cheers for Robert Shubert .. for his excellent management of our beloved Terascript product. We find the latest version fast, smooth and stable, and still the fastest development environment on the planet. Fifteen years at this and counting ….
