I ran "kstat -m battery" on Solaris (on Vbox 1.6 on MacOS) and got the
following output:

module: battery instance: 0
name: battery warning class: misc
        crtime 47.413763103
        enabled 0
        low capacity threshold 0
        snaptime 2215.84236619
        warn capacity threshold 0

module: battery instance: 0
name: power class: misc
        crtime 47.413758137
        snaptime 2215.842849596
        supported_battery_count 0
        system power AC

Is that why "no ACPI power usage estimate available" shows up?
