Vladimir, relative to training, what I have gathered is that for many common languages training has already been performed, In many cases this appears to suffice. So let the group know which language(s) you intend to apply tesseract to. Perhaps someone else can comment on when training is or is not necessary/helpful.
If you have not already done so, I suggest you use the Search tool supplied in this web site to search for "training". Relative to xp/vista, I have gathered that training is largely the same on every platform in terms of the high level details. Others, please correct me if I am wrong. On the other hand, building tesseract is not the same, so let us know if you need information about that and let us know what environment you want to use tesseract in (command line, or from C# or Perl,,,, and which compiler or which version of Visual Studio you use. There are lots of posts already about building, so I believe the group can help you.
