You can get to my icdar paper by searching groups for ray's paper. There is another description of the debug/control variables ifyou follow the documentation link on the tesseract home page.
There is a fundamental problem with the tesseract features for very small text. To allow it to recognize small text it would probably need a change to the features, but it would be possible. Ray.
