Hi,
I am trying to gather all the people across India (and the world)
interested in Indic OCR under one umbrella. There is the
Tesseract-Indic <http://code.google.com/p/tesseractindic> project that
has been in existence for the last 1.5 years, but with intermittent
activity.
To put things in perspective, the Govt. of India has an OCR consortium
that has been working to develop an Indic OCR solution for 10
languages for the last 3 years or so. It has yet to produce any
tangible results, and they do not intend to release the code
ultimately too.
In this context, I urge you to join the project to form a critical
mass to keep the Free Indic OCR project going at a constant pace. We
have made some significant breakthroughs recently and we have a good
chance of having a working OCR in the next 6 months or so.
