Apologies for insufficient googling on my part, previously. I seem to
have found the answer.
Changing the config file
/usr/local/share/tessdata/tessconfigs/batch.nochop
from:
chop_enable 0
wordrec_enable_assoc 0
to:
chop_enable 1
wordrec_enable_assoc 1
seems to do what I wanted. Thanks.
(I suppose I should create a new config file called "batch.dochop" for
that, or some such)
