followed the above instructions.  Compiled & installed -- no more
segfaulting so far.

About the accuracy:

my accuracy is lower than the one you produced.  I used ImageMagick to
change dpi, like so:

convert -units PixelsPerInch -density 300 snippet2.jpg snippet2.tiff

then ran the OCR, and got something inferior to your text (I don't
know how to attach at this point, but will resort to the attachment
mechanism as soon as i learn how to. For now, copy&paste):
