Actually I was able to reproduce this same behavior on Debian 6.0.4, and I was able to narrow down the range where revision 644 correctly identifies b.png and revision 659 doesn't. It appears that the multiple checkins on Feb 1, 2012 changed the behavior somehow. Are there a set of standard tests that I could run to see if there's a similar change in behavior for other cases?
