I install tesseract via Homebrew and have been symlinking tessdata into the appropriate directory. When I did this this morning, I got complaints from tesseract that the language files were not there: Error: failed to load /usr/local/Cellar/tesseract/3.05.02/share/tessdata/ita .special-words if I try "-l ita". This problem goes away when I copy the relevant files instead of symlinking them.
