I am using the below method to recognise uppercase alphabets and digits.
tesseract::TessBaseAPI *api = new tesseract::TessBaseAPI()
api->SetVariable("tessedit_char_whitelist",
"01234567890ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ");
I am using tesseract 3.05.
