I've heard grumblings about this (in lightdm-gtk) over the past few weeks, but my urging's to report a bug apparently hasn't been fruitful. As far as I can tell, these icons are provided by gnome-icon-theme and gnome-icon-theme-symbolic Do you have either (or both?) installed?
