On both the XO-1 and the XO-1.5 there are two indicator LEDs on the left of the front panel next to the screen rotate button.
Both indicator LEDs light to green only. On XO-1 and XO-1.5, the left-most LED lights to indicate that the wireless device is associated. On XO-1 only, the right-most LED lights to indicate data flow via the wireless connection. On XO-1.5 only, the right-most LED does not light. Yes, the antennas are a transducer that convert the radiofrequency energy from the wireless device, into an electromagnetic field in the air. The antennas work best when vertical to the horizon. There is no switch or sensing of the antenna rotation position by the laptop. There are no indicators on the antenna. However, they visually indicate polarisation. When the wireless LED indicators flash, it is very likely that the antennas are transmitting or receiving energy.
