When the EC reads a game keys it injects a keycode into the keyboard data stream. Thats how the host can use the keys as cursor movements. So 99% of the time game keys are identical to a keyboard press. However, at the point you are talking about OFW asks the EC what the status of the game keys is using a different method rather than via keyboard events. The reason is 100% to work around said keyboard issues. Thats also why it waits for you to release the button before continuing. So yes holding down a game key at boot works but only if you follow the on screen directions. If you were to release the key and then re-hold a game key you can encounter keyboard bugs. If the check (√) gets the countdown back then thats probably the right procedure. Boot with check key, then when you see the countdown press ESC. That will be the most robust. -- Richard A.
