In the top-level Makefile for the teTeX distribution, the strip:
target does nothing, but the install: target strips.  This has the
unfortunate consequence that it is not possible to install unstripped
binaries.  It certainly *is* possible to move the strip command to the
strip: target, as is sort of documented, but is it desirable?
