you can generate these two file by running
fmtutil --byfmt=tex
and
fmtutil --byfmt=latex

I have installed teTex from source on Solaris 2.8 intel platform.
I am getting the error
"I can't find the file 'tex.fmt'
also with latex
A find shows that neither tex.fmt or latex.fmt exist on the machine.
I have run texconfig and texhash.
Can someone please tell me what generates these files so that I can get going.
