MS Windows user question from a Linux teTeX user.
Perhaps this is too naive for you to believe someone would ask,
but...
Today I was updating the Cygwin installation on some machines in
our lab where I have been using MikTeX (and doing fine). I
glanced at the cygwin package list and noticed there is a
contrib/tetex package which appears to be OK, but there are some
things I can't understand about it, and wondered if anybody has
an encouraging word about it. mikTeX works fine, but the ease of
maintenance in the Cygwin package is a plus.
Except I can't figure how the teTeX in cygwin is supposed to
work with laTeX files. I succesfully build dvi from tex, but
when I try to use the latex command, the error is "I can't find
the format file 'latex.fmt'". And, sure enough, the teTeX from
Cygwin has no latex.fmt file (mikTeX does).
Is this a packaging problem? should I just stay with mikTeX?
