In addition to everyone else's comments, get rid of the // at the end of these directories, thus: TEXMF={$HOME/texmf,!!$TEXMFMAIN,!!$TEXMFLOCAL} Otherwise you'll screw up the path searching system. And make sure you have an ls-R file in $TEXMFLOCAL, otherwise, you'll want to remove the !! from this component.
