The issue is currently discussed at dante-ev mailing list. Markus Kohm has contributed Babel support for the experimental hyphenation patterns as language german-x. Some more work is needed to add support for both, traditional and new German orthography, and for Swiss hyphenation patterns. Question: Would Babel support be ok or is there any reason to prefer a new package for experimental German hyphenation patterns?
