Please read the documentation at the beginning of this file. TeX inserts a \discretionary after a font's hyphenchar, which is normally set to '-'. A \discretionary suppresses further hyphenation within this words. For languages which combine words using the '-' character (e.g., in german you combine the english "word hyphenation" to the combined word "Wort-Trennung"), the hyphenation is restricted to the hyphen char. T1 encoded fonts include a second '-' glyph which is designed and can be used as the font's hyphenchar. To allow word hyphenation at the '-' you have to add patterns containing the "-" to the usual hyphenation patterns. And this is done by "hypht1.tex". > > dehyphtex.tex > > german exceptions from Walter Schmidt, coiuld probably be used > > What to do with those two files? I have got feedback for "hypht1.tex", thus there are users (including me :-) of this file -> include these files. Best wishes, -bernd
