you forgot to tell V2 what kind of box it should have, see below

as stated in the lyrics paragraphs section of the M-Tx docs (3.3) you
may disable lyrics assignment from a give note by preceding it with an
"empty" lyrics paragraph reference {}. If you need to enable lyrics
agion later in the same music paragraph you may do so by referencing a
labeled lyrics paragraph:

{volta1}
Well we

U: Em ~ ~ ~ Am @+3 \Instr | @-3 ...
b1 b8d b8d a1 b4 {} [ b1l cl bl gl ] | V1 a2dl {volta1} c8d c1 |
L: want it fixed to-night."  ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Well we

U: Fine
Vb2 {} a2d r4 |

By in-line MusiXTeX. Add an alternative definition of the heighths of
voltaboxes somewhere before the first volta box, for example

%% \def\raisevolta{7\internote}

See MusiXTeX docs section 2.16.1

BTW questions like theese lead me to the following HINT:

Ye M-Tx users see to it that you have *also* the pmx- and MusiXTeX
documentations available!
