First you must have a working version of TeX. Installing TeX is difficult
but lots of people have done it. We are working on a step-by-step "HowTo,"
but until that is ready, your best bet is to go to the MikTeX homepage at
http://www.miktex.org/ .

Installing TeX is the hard part. You should be certain that you can process
and print ordinary text documents with your TeX setup before trying to set
up MusiXTeX. Setting up MusiXTeX simply means copying the MusiXTeX macros
and fonts to the right directories, and then telling TeX how to find them.
If the Windows "HowTo" isn't ready yet when you get to this point, you can
refer to the one we already have for Linux at
http://icking-music-archive.sunsite.dk/software/musixtex/musixtex-for-unix.h
tml .
The directory structures used by MikTeX and by the Linux version (teTeX) are
very similar.

I'm not sure I understand this request. Maybe you just mean the TeX
program. As I said, installing TeX is the hard part. The musixtex file is
just a TeX input file containing commands that cause a page of music to be
typeset. When processed by the TeX program it produces a
"device-independent file" or .dvi . That is in turn processed by any one of
a number of different programs depending on whether you want to view it on
screen, create a postscript file, create a PDF file, or print it to some
other sort of printer.

If you have problems along the way, please post them to the TeX-musix
mailing list.
