Dear All:

Don has uploaded a
HOWTO install MiKTeX, MusiXTeX and Friends under Windows
(http:/icking-music-archive.sunsite.de/software/indexmt6.html)

I must confess that I am responsible for it even though
I am not a suitable person because I am a Linux user and
rarely use Windows. However, I had to install these programs
onto several Windows computers, and, in my opinion, a HOWTO is
required for people visiting the archive and wishing to install
the programs necessary for typesetting.

Necessarily the HOWTO has many shortcomings because I have not been
able to test newer Windows versions, especially those which
have no DOS layer, autoexec.bat and config.sys and probably never shall.
I am sure that there are Windows experts on our list. I---and probably
numerous newbies---would appreciate if one of those
would take the time to correct, improve and extend the HOWTO.

I also would think it a good idea if somebody could write an introduction
for the use of MusiXTeX and the preprocessors. They are good manuals,
but the efforts for a newbie who wants to assess whether the programs
are something for him are too large if he has to go through three thick
manuals. Is there somebody on the list who could write such an introduction?

Christof
