I'm guessing that your system doesn't have an up-to-date pmx.tex. \liftpausc
was defined in version 2.3 of pmx.tex. Is it possible you have an even
older copy of pmx.tex somewhere higher up in your search path?

I've put many improvements into PMX since version 2.3. I keep calling these
"beta," and maybe that's why you haven't upgraded from 2.3. But the fact is
that I must rely on listmembers to do all my beta testing. This means that
no more testing is done for main releases (single decimal numbers) than for
the others. The only difference is that the main releases contain all the
example files and updated formal documentation. Also, it's been my past
experience that when I make a modification I usually don't break any older
functionality. So there's hardly any risk in upgrading to the latest
release. Even if it does something you hate, you can always revert to an
older version. Even if you haven't saved the older version, they are all
available back to 2.30 by browsing the software archives.
