You could try
\def\utxt#1#2{{\advance\transpose3\zcharnote{#1}{\smalltype\bf #2}}}
to put text upon the note :
\utxt{a}{1}\qu{a}
should put the number 1 upon the note at pitch "a"
you swap 3 with -3 and it should put it below the note.
With
\def\ltxt#1#2{{\loff{\zcharnote{#1}{\smalltype\bf #2}}}}
you put it on the left.
