Thanks very much to everyone who replied to my first query. I feel very stupid for not having included the \usepackage statement in the preamble, but in my defence, that wasn't the only thing wrong!
And now; Is it possible to typeset music in quadratic notation using MusiXTeX? If so, could someone point me to a good reference on the subject? Thanks again.
