Are there any NoteEdit users on this list by chance? I have a question ... Noteedit can do an amazing lot of stuff, but quite a bit are also to be added later; uptexts, small notes (cues), etc. How do you do it? I use Lilypond (2.1) and latest noteedit, but that's not specific.
I see three ways: * writing a "manual" difference file, like "bar 10, violin 2,con fuoco" and apply to the .ly file when really sure the notteedit phase is over. If you have to makes changes after this, you have to edit the .ly file. * changing the .ly file when needed, and using diff / patch to propagate the changes to generated .ly files. Could this be possible? * allowing special LilyPond (or general pass-to-engraver) "symbols" that noteedit ignores, but allows you to edit the text of. Quite like TeX commands in PMX, or in LyX (for a Wysiwyg example). Jan (the author) has been really nice when I mailed some bug reports, but I don't know if I dare just begging for features. I would rather implement it myself, but 'm not that KDE/QT-skilled alas. Takes at least time for "getting into it". This would certainly be the most elegant solution. Of cource, it would make .not files that are "engraver-specific" to some degree, but it would work well with at least my way of writing music. As noteedit evolves, it could implement more stuff native, if needed. At least adding "uptext" to noteedit would be really useful. Then I could always post-process magical uptext to lily commands.
