Hi, everybody.

I'm completely new to MusiXTeX.
I have Linux Mandrake 9.1 on my PC.
I see the installation of MusiXTeX is quite difficult.
I downloaded 'musixtex-T112.tar' and unzipped it,
but I don't manage to generate the fonts when I try to process some of
Taupin's examples,
like kv315f.tex,
neither when I open some of the dvi files, like musixdoc.dvi.
When I try to copy the tfm files into the directory
...texmf/fonts/tfm/public/musictex,
Linux denies me the permissions.

Hi Rodolfo,
did you try this as root? Root should have writing permission to the folders you need.
When you got all tfm files to the folder texmf/fonts/tfm/public/musix (and the other stuff to the suitable places, i.e. the files in the subdirectory metafont to texmf/fonts/source/public/musix, the files in the subdirectory tex to texmf/tex/musixtex and musixflx to /usr/local/bin), don't forget to run texhash or mktexlsr.
Then you should have no problems with the examples.
You should also have a look at pmx and perhaps also pmxpp or m-tx, it's _much_ less work to typeset a piece of music using these preprocessors than using musixtex directly!

Neither with MikTeX I manage to generate the fonts when I open musixdoc.dvi.

I don't use MikTex, so I can't say how to get the stuff there.

Best regards,
Simon
