This would be a very good option.
I used the following redefintion (which I found in a score of the archive but
forgot the author) to set barnumbers as italics
\\def\writebarno{\ifnum\barno>1\lrlap{\tenrm\it\the\barno\barnoadd}\fi}\
\\def\raisebarno{5mm}\
