Hello all,

I have a font I derived from a true type font that has characters I would like to use as accent. Currently I'm using \uptext to place the character. This works fine for most cases but overlaps the note head or beam when they extend above the staff. I also tried \zcharnote however this result in the accent being inside the staff when the note is low.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to combine the best of both behaviors? Or is this a case where I need to tweak the height on a per note basis?

Related to that, I'm currently storing my music in abc files and using abc2mtex to convert them to tex files. The accents are being created using macros and the H-Z characters reseverved for the user. This means it's not easy to add height paramters to the source. How are other folks managing their music? Would it be better for me to use abc2mtex to generate the tex once and then maintain/edit the tex file? Currently I only keep the abc file and build the tex file each time.

thanks for any suggestions,
Eddie
