You could try replacing \hlthick with 1.5\hlthick or 2\hlthick.  The
normal value of \hlthick is 0.2pt, making the line thickness 0.4pt.
I agree that it's thin.

2\hlthick works fine, but is a bit too thick. What is the right syntax to say 1.5\hlthick in TeX ? It complains "Illegal unit of measure" if I say this verbatim (I'm to a TeXpert :-)
