Thanks, but meant to hide not only bar rules, but also horizontal lines on which you put notes. Namely, to switch off whole empty bars with lines and barrules. For example:

Attached is a short example (in PMX; run PMX in the usual way to see what happens in MusiXTeX). (Note that I have also included a renamed file "nobars.pmx" -> "nobars.pmx.txt" , just to outwit mail servers that wouls otherwise refuse this as an attachment)
