Dear all. The Werner Icking Music Archive is now up and running on a new server hosted by DAIMI, the Dept. of Computer Science at Aarhus University, Denmark. The web address of WIMA is unchanged, http://icking-music-archive.org/, and so is that of WIMA's MusiXTex related mailing list, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Before I started moving WIMA to another hosting I announced that we would not be able to continue the TeX-Music mailing list on the new server. Luckily I was wrong. The technical staff of DAIMI is managing lots of other mailing list based on our technology (GNU mailman) and just reinstalled TeX-Music and its archive from WIMA's backup from the old server. For now there is a minor glitch with the list, though, which blocks postings sent from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Therefore I send this posting from [EMAIL PROTECTED] instead. That problem will be fixed next week by the DAIMI staff. During the last years WIMA has grown very successfull as an archive of free of charge classical music scores with an ever increasing rate of new contributions. That is indeed postive and pleasant. But there is a drawback with that. The evaluation and addition of new scores is done solely by yours sincerely. Therefore when I resume receiving new scores for WIMA I need to do that at a reduced level: when a contributors uploads a new score I'll not accept any further scores from that contributor before I have finished handling the current one. That may last as long as I decide. I hope for your understanding. In the long run WIMA strongly needs a technical renewal: we need user friendly facilities for a staff of editors cooperating in handling new scores, the score archive must be searchable and search results must be presented automatically at runtime. All that requires an underlying database, the data model of which I designed a couple of years ago when it was still expected that the Royal Academy of Music Aarhus would go into developing a new web interface. That is, as I have explained previously, not possible anymore. And I don't have the ressources for doing it myself. Therefore I encourage all of you to think about ways, economical and practical, to get on with the renewal that is required for securing WIMA at a long-term perspective.
