I've run into that M-Tx "feature" as well. For some reason prepmx 
ignores a pickup bar if it is contained in an M-Tx paragraph of its own: 
no pmx code is written to the pmx output file.

For my own M-Tx engravings I prefer to keep all bars in separate 
paragraphs. My work-around for the reported problem is to apply blind 
meter changes. I notate the pickup bar in the meter corresponding to its 
actual duration but sets the meter for display to that of the full bars. 
At the first full bar after the pickup bar I change the meter but 
suppress the meter display.
