Hartmut: Ubuntu is Debian-based. The latest CTAN packages have been installed in Debian Experimental and will be moved to Unstable after release of Wheezy. Jeremy Bicha of TeXLive Backports says: For Ubuntu 12.04 I think keeping the TeX Live Backports PPA at the 2012 versions is appropriate (this is the same version as in Debian Wheezy and even in 13.04 so far; only Debian experimental has the 2013 series.) So the priority is to get the "most recent version" into WIMA, then CTAN, then TeXLive-2013, which is currently "under construction". In general, the sequence is WIMA -> CTAN -> TeXLive -> Debian -> Ubuntu If you can't wait, please check out "Adding Non-Distribution Packages" at WIMA.
